Storage Ideas – Top Tips to Declutter Your Bathroom

Storage Ideas – Top Tips to Declutter Your Bathroom

Apart from the cloakroom and the walk-in pantry, the bathroom is usually the smallest room in the house. Unfortunately, it’s also an area where we like to store a load of stuff, cleansing lotions, face cream, bath oils, towels etc because it’s great to have them right there at hand exactly when we need them.

Yet leaving all of the above lying around bathroom counters and shelves makes the room look cluttered and hence, even smaller. So it’s important, when designing a new bathroom, to really take into account all the available storage options. And there’s probably a lot more than you may think.

Some Storage Ideas For Your Bathroom

Here at My Beautiful Bathroom Installations we’ve come up with a list of our favourite ways to gain extra storage in a small bathroom without having to knock down a wall and physically extend the area:

  • Bathroom Furniture – can be a great way to hide ugly pipework and it means you can clear away all the clutter.
  • A Corner Rack – this is a great way for using up extra space which would otherwise never have been utilised
  • Drawers – if there’s space underneath the counter where your sink sits when why not utilise it either by getting drawers fitted or by storing large lined wicker baskets underneath to hold spare towels and toiletries etc. The baskets can be very decorative. If you’ve an old-fashioned looking bathroom with free standing sink think about fitting a curtain around it and adding shelves behind
  • Clever Shelving – this can be added to the bottom of a large mirror for instance, making it look completely natural if it’s the same material or similar to the frame
  • Free Standing Bathroom Cabinets – these tend to fit nicely over the toilet area. But think too about tall, slim, vertical cabinets which go all the way up from the counter – or event the floor – to the bathroom ceiling (just put the less regularly used items at the top and invest in a step ladder!)
  • Floating Shelves – these look just right in a bathroom, especially if made of glass and they can turn any pretty bottles into a bathroom feature
  • Recessed Cabinets – a brilliant way of claiming extra space without taking away from the size of the room one iota
  • Extended Counter Top – the extension doesn’t have to be as wide as the original counter top but can be just a shelf in the same material which will hold a good number of bottles
  • Built-In Shelves – these are a great way of maximising space by making good use of nooks and crannies. But don’t overload the shelves otherwise the bathroom will start to look cluttered again and you’ll have missed the point of them
  • Hooks On The Back Of The Toilet Door Or Inside Cupboard Doors – great for hanging towels, face flannels, bags with cleansing lotions etc
  • Double Towel Rails – for existing and spare towels and hence no need to store them away in a drawer or shelf
