Keep Those Tootsies Toastie On Your Bathroom Flooring

Keep Those Tootsies Toastie On Your Bathroom Flooring

Cold feet isn’t just something you can get on your wedding day.

In fact, for lots of people, it’s a very rude awakening, as they skip across their chilly, tiled bathrooms floors at the start of every day. While it might be one way to shock you into action, why not consider some underfloor heating? You won’t have to hop, skip, and jump to just reach the loo, and the feeling of walking on a warm floor after getting yourself out of bed really does make you smile.

It gives your new bathroom a touch of luxury and makes it a delight to be in each morning.

There are two main methods of underfloor heating to consider.

The first is a hydronic system, which uses hot water pipes fed from a central heating boiler. It is a little thicker in terms of depth, so it’ll require some extra protection.

For this reason, it tends to be used in more industrial settings. The other more common option is an electric system, which uses flexible heating elements. They’re really thin and strong, making them perfect for laying directly under your bathroom tiles.

You won’t have to build up your floor, plus they’re very simple to shape. If you’ve got an awkward-shaped bathroom, it’s not a problem. You might be surprised to know it doesn’t cost the Earth to run underfloor heating. Around £3-£4-a-year per square metre is all it takes – and, since bathrooms are often the smallest room in the house, it works out very cheap year on year.

The initial expense might be slightly greater than just installing a radiator, but it’ll pay back dividends over the years you have it. Not to mention the fuzzy feeling you’ll get every single day.

Of course, if cost really is an issue, you don’t have to run the heating 24/7. Most systems come with timers, so you can easily set it to come on an hour before you wake up. The floor will be lovely and toasty while you’re getting ready, then it’ll turn off once you head out to work, so you won’t be using up electricity all day. Result.

You can even pick and choose where in the room you lay it. You could keep it simple and run a few lines of heating element in front of the sink or around the bathtub – the less element there is, the cheaper it’ll be to run. You’ll only heat the areas you actually stand on, while saving that little bit extra.

Remember, it’s very important you get the best possible job done on your tiling, once the heating element is installed. Advice from the experts is definitely worth it, as well as a very experienced tiler. The last thing you want is water leaking under the tiles and ruining all your good work.
