Space Savers For Small Bathrooms

Space Savers For Small Bathrooms
If you have a small bathroom space, you must be wondering how to make the most of it. Trying to squeeze a sink, toilet and bath/shower into one small space and keep it looking chic is no mean feat. However, there are a number of things you can do to add interest, make room and most importantly of all, create an illusion of extra space. Check out our top tips below for making the most of a small bathroom…
Linear Designs
The space saving bathroom from My Beautiful Bathroom pictured is a perfect example of how linear lines can create a sense of extra room and space. Keeping all your bathroom units and utilities on one side of the room may seem claustrophobic, but when done well it can open up your bathroom and allow you to use your limited space more creatively. It can also make for an interesting mix of varying heights on one side of the room which adds interest and avoids small bathrooms looking dull.
Colour Scheme
Keep your small bathroom all one colour as much as possible to create an illusion of greater space. This doesn’t mean your bathroom has to be all white, which although seems bright and clean can also be boring and predictable. Instead opt for light colours such as pastels and stay away from dark or drab washes. High gloss finishes and glass surfaces reflect light around the room adding extra dimensions to a small space. If you want to create a point of focus, you could even opt for a brightly coloured sink or toilet seat – one small feature in a bold colour to add sharp contrast and depth to an otherwise soft colour scheme.
Recessed Shelves
These shelves are a great trick for adding extra space and making use of your walls at the same time. If you have a hollow wall or cavity, don’t bother wasting extra valuable room with cupboards and units. Instead, build in shelves of varying depths and heights to accommodate towels, soaps and even candles to add an extra sense of elegance and ambience – something that is often neglected in smaller spaces.
Small Tile
If you have a small bathroom, small tiles are your new best friend. Large tiles will make your lack of space immediately obvious as well as looking out of place. Small tiles make your floor and wall space seem bigger, and an interesting mosaic that ties into your chosen colour scheme can make your bathroom feel more interesting than a bland, everyday tile. S mall tiles also allow you to experiment a bit with different colour and finishes as you have more to work with, although avoid putting a darker shade around the outskirts of your bathroom floor as it will make your lack of space immediately obvious.
Scale it Down
It is possible to obtain custom made sinks and baths that are smaller than average, allowing you to scale down the size of your units and create extra space in your bathroom. With an expert in bathroom design by your side, you can ensure that your units do not look smaller or cramped but instead petite and stylish. With the right angling, it’s possible that the difference won’t even be that noticeable, but you will definitely notice the extra space you’ve got as a result.
