Spring Cleaning Your Bathroom

Spring Cleaning Your Bathroom
Now it’s spring, we thought we’d share our own tips with you to get those bathrooms sparkling again. The bathroom is one of the most-used rooms in your house, whether it’s your main bathroom, your en suite or a small cloakroom. So it’s really important that the place where you clean yourself every morning, afternoon and evening is hygienic and cleaned properly. You need to relax while you’re having a long soak, too, and a clean space means a clean mind!
Quick Fixes Start With Your Surfaces
Anything that isn’t in its place can be put into drawers, cabinets, and baskets or into another room if it doesn’t belong in the bathroom. You can clean those areas out later if you are short on time. If you are guilty of using normally harsh chemicals, you can try a diluted liquid of water and white vinegar – the smell of vinegar disappears when it’s dry and it’s a natural disinfectant, as well as being bio-degradable. If you prefer to use shop-bought products, acidic products are usually very good at removing soap and scum and usually found in bathroom products (in comparison, kitchen products are usually alkaline.) If you like the thought of being as eco-friendly as possible, here are some ‘green’ products to pop in your bathroom cleaning kit:
- Soap or Washing-Up Liquid – They can usually remove light dirt and grime. You can get eco-friendly versions of both;
- Acidic Products & Natural Disinfectants – White vinegar, sparkling water, eucalyptus oil or lemon juice are all great;
- Disinfectants – Including white vinegar, lemon juice and tea tree oil;
- Water – Mix with white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda or non-toxic borax
- Toothbrush – No, not your favourite one. Use an old one to get grime from taps and toilet seat hinges;
- Oils – Olive oil or sunflower oil are especially great on solid wood and not only pick up more dirt but will give the wood a nice sheen. Baby oil is great if you have stainless steel.
Clean From Top To Bottom
Changing your cloth for a clean one as it collects dirt and grime. Do the walls first and get rid of all those hard or soft water marks by washing down first with washing-up liquid, and then use acidic products for heavier staining, lime scale and grime. Move on to your counter tops or surfaces and then your toilet. Then it’s time for the floor. If you have tiles, avoid using oils mentioned above. If they are particularly dirty, a mixture of water or vinegar with bicarbonate of soda will help scrub them to a nice sheen. Remember to wipe over so there are no remnants of the soda crystals. When you’re finished you will feel fantastic – a spring clean in your bathroom really does make you feel better about your space. Now it’s time to relax.
My Beautiful Bathroom Top Tip: Make sure you have cleaning wipes to hand. All this spring cleaning is made much easier if you get into the habit of wiping the toilet and surfaces when you’re finished in there.
